Natural Looking Dentures

New Natural Looking Dentures

Are your current dentures older than 5-7 years? Or have your dentures never been comfortable or secure right from the start?

The bone that supports your dentures is constantly remodelled by the body once the teeth have been lost. As a result, the contour of the mouth that the denture is designed to suction to can change dramatically over a number of years, and this is why you need to have a new denture made every five to seven years.

If you are considering investing in a new set of dentures, we encourage you to come to Dentures Plus where you will be treated by the same prosthetist at every appointment, and Lucas will use the information that he obtains from these appointments to construct and design your new dentures himself, specifically how you requested.

At Dentures  Plus, all of our patients get to try in their new dentures in wax before they are processed into hard acrylic. Not only does it give you peace of mind, it also allows  you a great opportunity to make any adjustments to the position, colour or shape of the teeth to ensure that you get exactly what you want. We offer these additional appointments because you know best what your natural teeth looked like, and this is what we aim to replicate.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are a removable dental appliance that replaces the missing teeth in the mouth. You would need a partial denture for aesthetic reasons but more importantly for eating, talking and to help keep remaining teeth from drifting or over erupting.

Partial dentures are removable meaning they are not fixed and can be inserted and removed at your convenience. This works by using the remaining teeth for retention thus retaining and stabilising the denture so that it doesn't move or fall down.

Before a partial denture is made generally it is standard procedure to have your remaining dentition checked to insure they are in good enough condition to withstand the loads a partial denture omits, once all restorations have been completed you are ready for impressions.

Partial dentures come in a few different materials, the most common are either Acrylic or Chrome.

Acrylic partial dentures are generally the most cost effective and can be made within a short period of time. Other advantages are that they can be relined, added to (in case you lose any more natural teeth) and can be used as a temporary denture before implants and or chrome.

Some of the disadvantages are that the acrylic denture base is somewhat weaker due to their irregular shape and tend to break frequently, especially those made for the lower arch. In order to counteract this, the acrylic is usually built fairly thick which can take a little extra time to get used to.

Chrome dentures however, are more a long term material for a partial denture as the frame and required components are all cast in one piece. This is just one of the many advantages chrome dentures have over acrylic. The components of a chrome partial denture rest on soft tissue and natural teeth making the denture both tooth and tissue borne, thus distributing the load evenly during mastication which helps protect the underlying bone. Due to the strength of the chrome it can be made in a smaller more efficient design making it more comfortable to wear and live with, whilst giving you the security of knowing it has less chance of breaking.

Implant supported Dentures

Are your dentures unbearably loose?

Unfortunately, ill-fitting dentures are very common. While in many cases, this can be overcome by the detailed processes we use when taking impressions and constructing dentures, there are some patients who have too little bone left to hold the bulk of a denture.  It is usually seen in the lower jaw, and the best option in these cases is to have two implants placed towards the front of the jaw, and a denture made to clip onto these.

For more information on why lower dentures are difficult to wear, see our FAQ:  My lower denture is always loose, why is this?

Emergency Repairs & Relines

Dentures are made of a material that is very resilient when used correctly, but it unfortunately does not respond well to sudden, hard forces such as being dropped onto the porcelain of sinks, or onto tiled floors. As dentures age and become poorly fitting, they can also be stressed by continual flexing while in use, which results in small cracks that can fracture the denture with time.

Dentures Plus offer emergency denture repairs, either while-you-wait or you can drop it off for pick up later in the day, whichever is more convenient for you.

Another same day service we offer for your convenience is hard relines. This is useful where you are happy with the appearance of your dentures but they have become a little loose due to changes in the underlying bone, so we remodel the fitting surface of the denture to improve retention.

We are happy to see you at any time, but we do suggest that you call us prior to coming in to avoid any disappointment or extended wait to be seen.
